Dr. Picken has lived and worked in Washington DC for over 30 years. She graduated summa cum laude from Knox College in Galesburg Illinois, and then graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. She completed her internship and two years of residency in General Surgery at Northwestern before becoming a clinical surgical fellow at the NIH National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. After selecting Head and Neck Surgery as her career choice, she completed four more years of residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center.

Dr. Picken has handled all of my serious sinus issues with great care. She did my sinus surgery, explaining the whole process to me, but never pressuring me to have this done. I also had some complicated antibiotic issues since I became resistant to the more common ones, so she arranged a special procedure with Alexandria Compounding Pharmacy which loaned me a machine and device that delivered the medicine directly to my sinuses. That really did the trick. She really cares about her patients and takes the time to talk and explain everything with great patience and friendliness. I highly recommend Dr. Picken.
