I love New City. I believe it represents God's heart in so many ways. It is super diverse in every way, ethnically and socio economically. You will also find people from every Christian denomination worshipping together. The focus at New City is Jesus, grace, and how can we encourage one another to press into God and be transformed by the Holy Spirit.
My husband and I have been attending New City Church for about six years ever since it was in the beginning days. As a bi-racial woman I appreciated the diversity of ethnicity and socioeconomic, but more important than that the gospel is presented in sermon, action and presence. New City has offered me community in a way that I have never experienced and I have seen this church go from 20 people to about 400. I told my husband when it reached 100 I would be ready to leave. Ok. I'm still there and not planning to leave anytime soon.
No church will offer you 100% satisfaction, but New City offers sermons based on the Word, the gospel upheld and a dose of reality to bring you to your knees. This is my home.
This is my home church and I have been going there since it started in 2008. I'm currently an intern at the church. I'm not sure who Justin Craft is but his description contains many factual errors. He seems to know a lot about our church having attended only twice.
We have two services 9AM & 11AM and our membership is at about 500-600. Our church is one of those most diverse churches in Los Angeles both in terms of race/ethnicity and class. Whites, blacks, Latinos, Asian Americans, and people of mixed heritage are all well represented at New City.
Pastor Kevin & the rest of our staff preach out of both the New and Old Testament with Gospel-centered preaching and my guess is that Justin came when we were in a series entitled, "The Gospel According to the Old Testament."
Our church's motto is "we are more messed up than we know and more loved than we can ever imagine." We welcome all people from every color and creed to come as you are. God bless!
This has been our family's home for over 9 years! We are so blessed by the community.
I truly feel comfortable in saying that New City is a church after God's own heart. The pastor teaches "grace filled" messages in an easy to understand & sound biblical context. He doesn't force the truth down any listener's throat, but oppositely teaches the truth clearly in love and in a gentle & humble spirit.
As a visitor, no matter what walk of life you come from, there is a great chance that you will feel very welcomed & embraced when walking in, throughout the message & in your departure. I have gone to church all my life & have lived in various places within the US. With respect to this, I have never experienced such racial & socioeconomical diversity in a church body. I'm confident that when we make it to heaven, it will mirror the diversity that New City allows us to be a part of on Sunday mornings. My wife & I make the lengthy commute from downtown Long Beach to New City in downtown LA because we are truly able to grow in a wholistic manner as a part of this church body.
I've been going to New City for almost a year now and LOVE IT! It is the most racially diverse and economically diverse church I have been to. The first time I went I was immediately noticed and welcomed warmly...It's not like other churches where you walk in and no one talks to you except for a good morning from the person handing you the bulletin. I was not only greeted but welcomed immediately. From the very first day, I loved Kevin's message of grace. He captures the heart of the Bible; God's heart for people. He doesn't bog down his messages with rules and regulations and religiosity, but teaches from the Bible, God's love, truth and all consuming grace. When I hear one of Kevin's messages I learn more about the historical time period each verse is coming from and I learn more and more about the heart of God. Not only does it help me in my walk today, but also teaches me more about the origins of the Bible. Not may pastors can do both as Kevin does. Jonathan, the associate pastor, is also a wonderful speaker and is an exceptional leader in the church. Being apart of a grow and serve group is what really cemented my connection and love for the church. That's where I created and foster lasting friendships with people that have become like family to me. We get deep in the word and in each others lives and it's powerful. All groups also have a serve portion where we reach out, volunteer and serve our community. New City has forever changed my life and I feel incredibly blessed to be apart of such an incredible, loving, open, innovative, diverse, cutting edge, non religious, Bible based, community centered, church!
Jude & I have been living and working in the Los Angeles community for over 20 years. New City Church is the cross cultural church that we have looked for and prayed for all these years. If you are looking for a church that is committed to loving God and serving this diverse city. This may be your church home. If you are looking to only meet people like yourself and to be with "your kind of people"... then you may find this community challenging and a stretch for you. For the youth that I worked with for many years who found their first generation churches of various ethnic stripes too confining... Here they have found a home that reflects the diversity of their high school experience and the diversity of the city. Here they have found a safe place to work out what growing into adulthood looks like.
I would say that if you want to build close intimate relationships that you will want to check out the "Grow and Serve" groups of this church. It takes a lot of intentionality for such a diverse group of people to get to know each other and love each other.
If you are looking for a place that will seek to love you towards health and well being while challenging you to learn to love God and others. This is one of the solid expressions of Christ's body in greater Los Angeles.

Pastor, have you taught your congregation about blasphemy of the Spirit? It is committing the very act of a demon!! Entering into where the Spirit dwells!! Hence the reason that it is an unforgivable sin!! Even knowledge of such an act and doing nothing about it is cause for a guilty charge. When Jesus had the demons come out of the possessed man, they asked him, " are you going to torture us before the appointed time?" Since Jesus is just, to get a punishment of torture, what you have done, must have been an act of torture!! No one with knowledge of such a vile thing who was to cowardly to stop it is going to heaven. That's what the Bible says.
I love that I can have church live service like on Facebook at home. I get to see the Sunday live services when I get stuck being at home in the morning. I feel like I still attend and haven’t missed much!
