Catherine Simon was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA. She's a Master Educator who has always had a passion for cooking. She's been cooking for forty plus years, but decided to hone in and perfect her craft in preparation for launching "Soulfood by Catherine" 5 years ago. As a young lady, one of the first dishes she learned to prepare for her family was Gumbo (Louisiana Style)...because she was such a finicky eater.

Food is really good! Nice portions! But I was expecting my peach cobbler to be warm at the very least!! It wasn't even ROOM TEMP...just VERY COLD and my jalapeno cornbread fell apart as though it had been previously baked and then frozen for another day. Like TODAY when I decided to visit. 😒 With that being said, these hiccups will not keep me away at this time. It's the $20 + tip that makes me expect better on the day I choose not to cook.

The family feel from when you walk in is great. Also the gumbo is so wonderful! Everything we (my family and I) tried was delicious!

Not the best soul food - it's just convenient. The corn bread tasted like it had been refrigerated for too long and like someone cleaned the fridge out with a cleaner and the taste was in the corn bread.
The food had really good flavor my husband loved the fried ribs and the young lady behind the counter had excellent customer service. It looked as if the owners were having a meeting but still took out the time to make sure we were enjoying food.I would have given 5 stars but they had can greens
Customer service was great, Place was good! Great flavors, a little kick just the way I like, it’s best to eat there or go straight home and eat, I got the fried ribs, i think they forgot my mashed potatoes, but it was cool. I didn’t go straight home to enjoy my food like it was supposed too be, but still good. I will return , and thank you Mrs. Gal.
The food was pretty good. I ordered Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes, Candied Yams, Potato Salad, Jalapeno Corn Bread. I wanted some Macaroni and Cheese but they ran out. I also could have used a little more sauce over my meatloaf. My husband had the Smothered Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, and Yams with Cornbread. The other side options had Pork and he does not eat pork. My husband did say that his chicken tasted like it was a few days old and reheated but it was good. Customer Service was good and they had a lot of Uber Eats business. The inside atmosphere could use a little updating, but you can tell that the business has been there for some years.
Simply delicious. Service wonderful. You won't regret giving them a try!
Visited here today with my husband after church. The service was very good. Everyone was pleasant and welcoming. He had the fried pork chops, which were very tasty. I enjoyed the turkey wings as well. My only issue was the cornbread, which was not warm. Understandably, you cook it ahead of time. But you should make sure it's hot like the rest of the meal when served. Generous proton sizes. I'd enjoy a fried pork chop sandwich if they sold them that way. Will definitely come back.
