The surly bartender, who is definitely not the manager has a bad attitude and can't take a joke. I wouldn't avoid this place due to him. I would just avoid being served by him. Matt makes the best drinks and is way more talented. Really Matt should be working at a high-end bar and avoiding the suck of what the career surly bartender is going to end up doing which is dying alone and sad in an alley somewhere on a cold dark night...poor guy. Music was awesome. Didn't have the food and wouldn't eat here but really enjoyed the ambience, patrons, aside from and interaction with the surly bartender who shouldn't be in food and beverage industry and is super-jaded with life itself. Sad for him. You can have a great evening here if you avoid that guy. Late 30s, a little chubby with love handles, stink face, obviously doesn't want to serve you, and bodily hygiene is questionable. If I managed this place I would get rid of that guy because he encouraged more than 2 patrons to peace out and they're losing money over his negative attitude. I didn't get his name because it wasn't worth it but he literally wears a t shirt that says Surly and doesn't looked washed. Have fun!
If I could give this place 0 I would. This place has the most entitled bar staff. Wednesday evening a man in a blue button down shirt, with white hair, looking about in his late 50's was just awful to me and my friends. That added on to this bar being nothing special, especially compared to the rest of Denver downtown life, just save your time. You can get better service and nicer drinks, WITH FOOD, across the street at Alloy or Ignite.
Great service at the main bar. Warned me about the Shark Shot... did it anyway!! Great little bar!!

Awesome beer selection and the tiki bar in back is by far my favorite surprise in Denver.
Star Bar has a reputation as the bartender's bar. It's a preferred industry bar 7 nights a week and it's common for Denver's best bartenders to take a guest shift serving great cocktails.
The bartenders were great but they don't have any stouts or porters on tap. That was disappointing since the only beer I can stomach is beer as dark as my soul. The owner needs a better variety of beers on tap but I really enjoyed the bartenders. Visiting out of town.

Lots of fun and great drinks! Several co-op machines as well as classics like G Man, and pinball among others. Service was good too!
As a midwestern bartender, this was definitely the best bar I visited in Denver. It's what I assume the city was like before everyone started moving there. Cool bartenders, local brews on draft, lots of seating, darts, ski ball, big buck hunter, and a patio out back. It's a relic of a different time in the city that I hope stays open for many more years.
