From the beginning, starting with our inquiry forms, we endeavor to create a gender inclusive space where all voices are valid and welcome. Private lessons, online classes, monthly gatherings, and in-house literary materials are some of the tools that we utilize to support trans and nonbinary speakers and singers.

The Voice Lab is made up of people who genuinely enjoy spending time learning and sharing music, whatever a student's level may be. One of Chicago's treasures.
Owner and instructor Liz Jackson creates a safe environment for exploration. She understands the physical processes that produce the voice, and more importantly, the way that voice intersects with identity. If the way you sound doesn't match with the person you are inside, Liz can help you to bring these two things into alignment.
Liz Jackson is awesome. I searched for months, trying 3 other instructors around the city before finding Liz and I'm so happy I tried, tried again. She is so knowledgeable about the technical aspects of singing but she knows just how to explain what's happening and what to listen for in ways that I (a novice) can understand and work on. Liz really listens to what I want and my goals become her goals - not the other way around. I also had the pleasure of taking a lesson with Alexandra once. She and Liz have different teaching styles but both ladies have a wonderful talent for making students feel comfortable and confident. Every lesson brightens my week!
Having been a student of Katherine's for close to a year now, I cannot possibly thank her enough. From improving my breath control to helping increase my modal range upwards of half an octave, she's been there every single step of the way!
Alexandra is One of the best teachers my daughter Maddy has ever had. For the last year she has taught Maddy so much and has coached her into a musical theater scholarship and coveted spot at Indiana University's theater program. The quality and control of her voice has become amazing and her knowledge of music has strengthened significantly. I can't thank Alexandra enough for what she's done for my daughter's confidence and abilities.
I'm so happy my fiance Rachel is now the new office manager! She has been wanting to work here for so long!! I hope she moves her singing from the shower to third Thursdays! Love you girl! I'm so proud! And you have a beautiful singing voice. You have found your place! ♡♡♡♡
We feel beyond Blessed to have found Katherine and The Voice Lab. There is nothing that compares to the quality of lesson that Katherine gives, and my 11 year old daughter is so excited every time she knows she has a lesson. She LOVES her time with Katherine!!!! She is challenged, she is learning wonderful technique, and Katherine is completely focused and gives all she has to my daughter in that 30 minute time frame. Unparalleled in quality and value.
I have been Liz's student for a little over six months, and I have to say that she is one of the best voice teachers I have had the pleasure of working with. Her grasp of Technique is masterful, but what really sets her apart to me is her incredible compassion and playfulness as an instructor--she knows how to help you negotiate the twists, turns, and self-discoveries of this rewarding pursuit with humor without letting you off the hook and encouraging you to expand your limits. Highly recommended!
