Rusty's Southern

Company Description
Ever since moving to California over 15 years ago I have wanted to share my South with this city. I grew up on Southern food and Family traditions with their roots in the Carolinas.

I moved west from eastern North Carolina (by the Outer Banks) years ago and have never gone back. Before I went to Rusty's, it had been almost a decade since I ate a chopped pork sandwich, and no one out here has even HEARD of a shrimpburger. Rusty's really took me back to the flavors of my hometown. Everything is delicious here and the service is so friendly. They really treat you with Southern hospitality. Far and away my favorite restaurant in SF.

Very appetizing. The staff was helpful and kind. The place has a nice feel to it. Feeling here is similar to a cafe in San Jose I liked.

Rusty's is a great little southern restaurant that has some really delicious food. Great atmosphere and ambience. You definitely won't be disappointed in the food. If you get a chance try his shrimp and grits and beer battered fried shrimp.

Food was delicious. Southern food. Biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, country fried steak. Pleasant, friendly atmosphere. Went there for brunch. Service was very good. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

I just moved from South Carolina to San Francisco and this place is just like home. The brisket is amazing. The chicken is fantastic. The BBQ plate is delicious. The corn chowder and pimento cheese balls are amazing. Literally, every dish is amazing. Very good quality southern food, you must try them out. The staff is great too. Make you feel very welcome.

If you don't go for the food, which is incredible, go for the good time. Rusty's is a true soul food restaurant. I leave feeling full every time, body and soul. Every time I go there, I am blown away by the consistent quality of the food, and how friendly and warm the staff is. Just going there and having a chat with the staff is a great time and worth a visit. And it's not just that it happened once either. It's a reliable pick-me-up after a long day. Rusty's is truly a great, great spot. There's a reason Rusty's is my favorite restaurant in SF.

I immediately felt comfortable at Rusty's with a large space, a busy but not packed restaurant and a warm greetings from the bartender and every server. Service was quick and friendly. We tried the chicken fried steak, Nashville hot chicken sliders (each almost the size of a fast food sandwich) and the Mac and cheese. We enjoyed everything and the portions were large! We'll have to try the dessert next time. Looking forward to trying the biscuits as well

Live for this place! I mean, pimento cheese croquettes? You had me at sweet tea! (With fresh mint....and the good crunchy ice...) Eggs Benedict to kneel before, and a wait/bar staff so adorable I scribbled my number down on three different cocktail napkins and still had to write it on the back of the busboys hand because I was out of copies by the time we finished brunch...Oink! Oink!

Last visited in June 2019, taking my BFF there for our 'country breakfast'. Was so delicious. This was probably my sixth time visiting since it opened a few years ago. We went early on a Sunday exactly at opening time so we got a great table without waiting. Will definitely go back again for that special breakfast as you get your money's worth. They have a varied menu so there is something there for everyone.

Not only is the food and ambiance here amazing, but to our surprise Rusty himself seated and served us and is the nicest guy ever. He really made the experience memorable. I had the vegetable risotto, which was delicious, and my husband had the country fried steak and chocolate pecan pie for dessert. He's from the South and said it was the best pecan pie he's ever had. Will definitely return again!
